John Abraham’s cop drama Satyameva Jayate is standing at par with Akshay Kumar’s Gold. Despite a clash with a film that boasted of stellar star cast including the superstar Kumar himself, Satyameva Jayate managed to bring some good numbers to its kitty. Released on Independence Day, the crime-thriller film made most of the national holiday, however, the numbers plummeted to great extent on day 2. That’s the drawback of a weekday release. Being a working Thursday, the cinema halls saw vacant seats for both Gold and Satyameva Jayate.
Satyameva Jayate Box Office Collection Day 5
Yet, Satyameva Jayate succeeded to get back on the track on weekend. On Saturday, it minted Rs 9.03 crore and on Sunday, the numbers shot to Rs 10.26 crores, making the total to Rs 56 crores. With this, John Abraham and Manoj Bajpayee’s film has successfully crossed the 50-crore mark in its first week.
Sharing the box office report, Taran Adarsh wrote, “#SatyamevaJayate packs a STRONG *extended* opening weekend total... Went downhill on Day 2, but remained consistent from Day 3 to Day 5... Weekdays biz is crucial... Wed 20.52 cr, Thu 7.92 cr, Fri 9.18 cr, Sat 9.03 cr, Sun 10.26 cr. Total: ₹ 56.91 cr. India biz.”
Gold Box Office Collection Day 5
On the other hand, Akshay Kumar’s Gold raked in Rs 15.55 crore on Sunday, followed by Rs 12.30 on Saturday. The Reema Kagti-directorial now stands at Rs 71.30 crore mark, inching slowly towards the 100-crore milestone.
Satyameva Jayate Movie Review
India TV rates Satyameva Jayate 2.5 out of five. Our film critic writes, “From bribery to fake gallantry medals, the film talks about all. It hits right at the point when it refers to the Khaki colour as the new colour of fear and bias and didn’t shy away from raising fingers at the existent flaws in our system. The film packs many punches like ‘Gareeb insaan kachre ki tarah hote hain aur kachre ko insaaf nahi milta.’, ‘note badle neeyat nahi’ lampooning the fraudulent ways of the police. The eternal chase between Veer and Shivansh keep you at the edge of your seat. The film is full of anger and frustration and you will feel the same while watching it. It’s not a happy film for even fraction of a second, and so, it’s the utmost real.”
