Satyameva Jayate Box Office Collection Day 1: John Abraham’s film rake in Rs 18 crore despite clash with Gold

Satyameva Jayate vs Gold, it was certainly one of the biggest box office clashes for the year 2018. On the occasion of Independence Day, two big films Gold and Satyameva Jayate release in theatres, giving tough competition to each other. While Akshay Kumar’s Gold travelled back to 1948, evoking patriotism in the audience, John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate talked about weeding out corruption from our system. If Gold was full of love for the nation, Satyameva Jayate was all about Indian police’s malpractices. Altogether, both of the films belonged to different genres despite being patriotic films.

We told you how Akshay Kumar’s Gold broke the records for the superstar. It is Akshay’s sixth hit film in a row after Toilet Ek Prem Katha, PadMan, Airlift and Jolly LLB 2. Breaking all the records, Gold earns Rs 27 crore at the box office on its day 1 itself. It also stands shoulder to shoulder with Salman Khan’s Eid offering Race 3, which made Rs 27.5 crore on its opening.

On the other hand, Satyameva Jayate gives John Abraham his highest opening film ever. The cop drama raked in Rs 18 crore on its day, becoming the highest opening film for the actor. Earlier, his film Parmanu minted Rs 85 crores worldwide becoming a hit at the box office. It seems like the year 2018 is treating John Abraham really well.

This Independence Day has certainly given Bollywood its two of its biggest opening films of the year. Tweeting about the amazing business Gold and Satyameva Jayate did at the box office,  Taran Adarsh tweeted, “The BIG HOLIDAY [#IndependenceDay] results in BIG NUMBERS at the BO... Both, #Gold and #SatyamevaJayate have TERRIFIC Day 1... Both, Akshay and John record their HIGHEST *Day 1* biz... The *combined* total is approx ₹ 45 cr [+/-], which is HUMONGOUS... Yesss, BO is on.”

Satyameva Jayate Movie Review

Our film critic wrote about Satyameva Jayate, “Satyameva Jayate’s cornerstone is the corruption that’s eating up the police department of the country. From bribery to fake gallantry medals, the film talks about all. It hits right at the point when it refers to the Khaki colour as the new colour of fear and bias and didn’t shy away from raising fingers at the existent flaws in our system. The film packs many punches like ‘Gareeb insaan kachre ki tarah hote hain aur kachre ko insaaf nahi milta.’, ‘note badle neeyat nahi’ lampooning the fraudulent ways of the police. The eternal chase between Veer and Shivansh keep you at the edge of your seat. The film is full of anger and frustration and you will feel the same while watching it. It’s not a happy film for even fraction of a second, and so, it’s the utmost real.”
