Sanju beats Aamir Khan's PK to become third grosser of all times
Ranbir Kapoor and Rajkumar Hirani’s Sanjay Dutt biopic Sanju is swiftly making its way to the top. After beating Salman Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai, the flick has surpassed the lifetime business of Aamir Khan’s blockbuster movie PK. Even when new release Dhadak and Mission Impossible Fallout affected its business on the box office, the movie didn’t stop playing with the numbers and now has become the third highest grosser of all times. The movie has earned Rs 341.22 cr.
Film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his social media to share the latest figures. He wrote, “#Sanju surpasses *lifetime biz* of #PK… Now THIRD HIGHEST GROSSING *Hindi* film… [Week 5] Fri 45 lakhs, Sat 87 lakhs, Sun 1.15 cr, Mon 35 lakhs, Tue 40 lakhs, Wed 38 lakhs, Thu 34 lakhs. Total: ₹ 341.22 cr. India biz.”
This is Ranbir Kapoor’s first movie to have crossed the 300 crore mark and looks like the success of the film doesn’t limit its wongs to Bollywood. Sanju has also become the first production from Bollywood to be presented during the New Horizons Festivals, Poland. The biopic had its European premiere at the International Festival in Wroclaw on July 29.
Not just this, after creating waves across Indian and international box-offices, Sanjay Dutt’s life will also be told in a three-part web series. Besides Ranbir Kapoor, Sanju boasts of a huge star cast including Paresh Rawal, Manisha Koirala, Vicky Kaushal, Anushka Sharma, Boman Irani, Dia Mirza, Jim Sarbh, Sayaji Shinde and Sonam Kapoor.
Produced by Vinod Chopra Films and Rajkumar Hirani Films in association with Fox Star Studios, Sanju released last Friday of June on 29th.
