The box office in India recently witnessed a fierce competition between two most talked about movies of the year.
We are talking about Salman Khan starrer ‘Sultan’ and Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’.
Both the movies have done a stupendous business and has minted crores at the box office.
However, everyone has been quite curious about who won the battle of numbers between ‘Sultan’ and ‘Kabali’.
Initially, Thalaiva’s ‘Kabali’ was at the lead. It had earned Rs. 48 crore on its day of release while, ‘Sultan’ had minted just Rs. 37.50 crores on the d-day.
However, gradually ‘Kabali’ lost its pace, and ‘Sultan’ got the benefit of its long weekend.
Lately, it was reported that ‘Kabali’ has surpassed the worldwide collections of ‘Sultan’ with an earning of over Rs. 650 crores with in two weeks of release.
On the other hand, ‘Sultan’ stands at Rs. 569.73 crore so far from worldwide collections and is expected to touch the Rs 600 crore mark soon.
If the reports were to be believed, Thalaiva emerged as the winner in overall connection.
However, industry grapevine now suggests that ‘Kabali’ collections reports were exaggerated.
Yes! Rajinikanth’s don saga seems to have not earned over Rs. 600 crores.
According to Bollywood trade analyst Ramesh Bala, ‘Kabali’ has earned grossed Rs.205 crore in India and Rs. 104 crore in overseas to take its 10-day total to Rs. 309 crore. Even if we include Rs. 200 crore that ‘Kabali’ earned before its release because of the business deals, it is way behind Sultan’s collection.
So, despite being a Rajinikanth movie, released in three languages (Tamil, Telugu and Hindi) in over 4500 screens worldwide, ‘Kabali’ seems to have failed to beat Salman’s wrestling drama which is still going strong even after a month of release.
