Here is some good news for the fans of Saif Ali Khan. The Omkara actor has joined Netflix's first India-commissioned original series Sacred Games, which is based on author Vikram Chandra's best-selling novel. The film will be produced in partnership with Phantom Films for more than 100 million Netflix subscribers in over 190 countries.
The National award-winning actor will play the role of Sartaj Singh in the series and it has got everyone's attention. Here's why:
Saif is a true pioneer
Yes, even the vice president of the streaming giant has admitted. "Saif Ali Khan is a true pioneer and risk-taker in Indian cinema, and we could not be more delighted to be working with him on Sacred Games," said Erik Barmack, the vice president of international original series at Netflix.
Vikram Chandra's novel
The book took seven years to complete. Sacred Games has been described as an epic crime fiction story with richness and power. The book got rave reviews. And the character that Saif is playing is layered and complex. It remains to be seen how Saif manages to pull it off. The series, to be shot on location in India, will delve into the city's intricate web of organised crime, corruption, politics and espionage.
