Ranveer Singh and Kabir Khan's project, 83 is now all set to go on floors from June 5 in Glasgow, Scotland. After training rigorously under veteran cricketers such as Kapil Dev and Mohinder Amarnath, the 83 team is ready to kick-start the shooting. It will be a 100-day schedule for the actors. Earlier, the entire cast of 83 underwent cricket training in Dharamshala and later, Ranveer came to Delhi to learn cricketing skills from Kapil Dev. The film features Ranveer Singh as Kapil Dev, captain of the World Cup-winning Indian cricket team of 1983.
The team will shoot at a local cricket club in the Scottish port city for a week, followed by other popular locations like Dulwich college in London, Edinburgh cricket club, Nevill Ground at Royal Tunbridge Wells in Kent and the Oval cricket ground. “Since it’s a real-life story, this film involved a lot of training and research. Now that it’s going on the floors, starting with the Glasgow schedule, everyone’s excited to recreate a journey that made history, all thanks to our cricketing heroes of the 83 team,” Kabir said in a statement.
The film will chronicle India's 1983 world cup victory under Kapil's captainship when the team defeated West Indies in the final to clinch their first-ever World Cup trophy. 83, presented by Reliance Entertainment, also features Pankaj Tripathi, Saqib Saleem, Tahir Raj Bhasin, Jatin Sharma, Ammy Virk and Hardy Sandhu in important roles. 83 is slated to release on April 10 next year. Ranveer announced the release date with a video on Instagram. ''The incredible untold story of India’s greatest victory! 10th April 2020- Good Friday #Relive83 @83thefilm @kabirkhankk,'' he captioned the clip.
Meanwhile, if Pinkvilla report is to be believed, Deepika Padukone will also feature in the movie. If this happens, then for the first time, Deepika and Ranveer will play man and wife post-marriage. It is being said that the actress will also co-produce the flick.
The publication quoted a source saying, “Deepika has been locked for Kabir Khan’s next film 83... The film has an ensemble cast being lead by Ranveer and now, DP too has given her go ahead to the film.” The source further added, “Deepika has a good role because she plays Kapil’s wife Romi Bhatia who was also a pageant winner. In fact, as far as the story goes, she had left the stadium after India started losing the wickets. But when she heard that they are on the verge of winning the World Cup, she came back to the stadium. That part is extremely dramatic. Also, the film will delve into the relationship between the husband and wife, their love story.”
On a related note, Ranveer was last seen in Zoya Akhtar's Gully Boy, co-starring Alia Bhatt. The critically-acclaimed film went on to mint over Rs 100 crores. Earlier, Ranveer's Simmba also set the cash register ringing with the collection of over Rs 230 crores.
