Rani Mukerji starts shooting for Mardaani 2. Check out her first look as valiant police officer Shivani

Rani Mukerji's 2014 film Mardaani was both critical and commercial hit. It raked in around Rs 56 crore at the box office.

Bollywood actress Rani Mukerji had promised her fans to keep doing films after she returned to the silverscreen with Hichki. A year later, the actress has started working for her next film which is going to be a sequel to her hit 2014 film Mardaani. The film directed by Pradeep Sarkar, is a cop drama film which revolves around a woman cop who takes on the human trafficking business in Mumbai after her goddaughter gets abducted. The film which was made on the budget of Rs 21 crore earned around Rs 56 crore at the box office, earning the hit status.

After five years, Rani Mukerji has returned to Mardaani to work on its sequel. The shooting began on Wednesday, as announced by film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh. He wrote on his Twitter: #Mardaani2 begins... Stars Rani Mukerji... Gopi Puthran directs... Produced by Aditya Chopra... 2019 release.

Rani Mukerji will be seen as a police officer against a merciless villain. According to the reports, the sequel will be even more serious than the previous film. The film will involve a cat and mouse chase between her and the villain.

Mardaani 2 will be directed by Gopi Puthran and bankrolled by Rani Mukerji’s husband Aditya Chopra. The film will release later in 2019.

Last year, Rani Mukerji was seen as a teacher suffering from Tourette’s Syndrome in Sidharth Malhotra directorial Hichki. The film was loved by the film critics and the audience.
