‘Rangoon’ featuring talented actors Kangana Ranaut, Saif Ali Khan and Shahid Kapoor received mixed reviews but couldn’t do magic when it came to numbers. The movie has earned Rs 18.80 crore in its opening weekend, according to the media report.
The film earned Rs 6.07 crore on its opening day. It was expected that the collection will witness growth on weekends but nothing as such happened. On Saturday, the film fetched Rs 6 crore and on Sunday it witness a slight hike and minted Rs 6.73 crores. Thus, making total weekend collection of Rs 18.80 crore.
The film got almost 1800 screens in India and featuring the three stars together, it was expected that it will give tough competition to Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Jolly LLB 2’ that has already entered the coveted Rs 100 crore club. But nothing as such happened.
‘Jolly LLB 2’ is still going strong on its third weekend and has collected Rs 110.71 crore till now. The film was the sequel of 2013 film ‘Jolly LLB’ that featured Huma Qureshi opposite Akshay. Annu Kapoor and Saurabh Shukla were also applauded for their performances.
‘Rangoon’ is helmed by Vishal Bhardwaj and Kangana was working for the first time with the director. The lady gave powerful performance and was supported well by Shahid and Saif but it is still to be known in coming days if the film become successful to carve its niche in the era of 100 crore club.
