Curtains might have drawn on Rio Olympics 2016 but it seems it will stay a hot topic of discussion for some time. Days after a renowned author and columnist garnered flak for criticising the performance of Indian athletes, another celebrity has passed derogatory comments. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma took to micro blogging website Twitter and posted a series of comments centred on the idea that the celebrations going on across the country are not worth it.
These tweets from RGV came at a time when the entire nation is celebrating the two medals it got in the Rio Olympics. Wrestler Sakshi Malllik and shuttler PV Sindhu were received in a grand manner upon their return from Brazil.
However, RGV feels that there is no reason to rejoice given the low medal tally. Never known to be the one to mince his words, RGV asked if with two medals we call ourselves Incredible India, then what should the US call itself.

Here is what he tweeted:
When Shobhaa De has tweeted that all Indian athletes have gone to do in Rio is click selfies and come back empty handed, she was showered with condemnation from every hook and corner. So much so, that the likes of Virender Sehwag and Amitabh Bachchan trolled her in their congratulatory messages for Malik and Sindhu.
Let us see if RGV’s comments meet the same fate or no. With his comments, has RGV gone on the wrong side of the nation who is currently in a jubilant mood? We will know with time.
