Hollywood movies having strong female characters in superhero movies are not an uncommon thing, but in India this genre is left unexplored. The reason behind this, according to filmmaker Rakesh Roshan, is the fact that viewers won’t appreciate it.

Rakesh along with his son Hrithik Roshan has given two superhero movies to Bollywood- Krrish and Krrish 3. So when Rakesh was asked recently if he would ever think about making a superhero movie with a female protagonist saving the world, he said viewers would reject it.

“I don’t think I can make a female-based film, as I believe the audience won’t accept that,” said Rakesh.

In Hollywood, some of the biggest actresses have worked in superhero movies, and also received appreciation for it. Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), Sacrlett Johnson (Black Widow), Jennifer Garner (Elektra); were loved by cine buffs in their roles. But looks like it will be a long time before Bollywood sees a super heroine, atleast this is what Roshan Senior felt.

The ace filmmaker also had a piece of advice for newcomers. He said that though the young lot of actors including Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Alia Bhatt and Shraddha Kapoor are talented, they should choose their movies wisely. He said the young actors should work with good directors and not run after overnight success.

Rakesh Roshan also narrated an incident from his past. He said that in 1980 filmmaker Hrishikesh Mukherjee had approached him for ‘Khoobsurat’. Back then, Rakesh had asked if the leading lady Rekha would agree to do a movie with a flop actor like him. To his surprise, the diva had no issues.

Speaking about the bond he shares with Rekha, Rakesh said

“She comes home often, and brings us home-cooked south Indian dishes”.
