Rajkumar Hirani’s biopic on Sanjay Dutt, titled Sanju is breaking all the records at the box office even about a month after its release. The film is shattering records at the cinema halls’ ticket windows and Ranbir Kapoor’s career is back on track with his first-ever 300 crore plus film. Despite being marred by controversies and legal cases, Sanjay Dutt’s eventful life served as a perfect recipe for a Hirani blockbuster. Churning out on the same recipe, Ram Gopal Varma is also planning to help a biopic based on Dutt’s life. He’s planning to call it Sanju: The Real Story.
Hirani’s version of Sanjay Dutt’s life has been put under scanner by many Bollywood buffs who even accused the maker of ‘whitewashing’ the actor’s image in public. Another news broke in Mumbai Mirror on Friday which announces RGV making a more ‘genuine’ version of Sanjay Dutt biopic. The report says, “Varma’s film will focus only on his possession of the AK-56 rifle by the 59-year-old actor’s life."
When the leading daily reached out to Ram Gopal Varma, he confirmed the news saying, “Yes, I am making the film.”
The report further states that RGV was rather disappointed with the way Hirani dealt with Sanjay Dutt’s brush with law in the relation with the 1993 serial blasts in Bombay.
“That Dutt was doing drugs, was traumatised by his mother’s battle with cancer [she died just three days before the release of his first film Rocky], had multiple flings, many of them one-night stands, is all well documented,” says the source. It further states that people wanted to know about his whole story about the controversies that had put Sanjay Dutt out of cinema for several years.
The report reads, “RGV’s film will delve into details like who were the people who threatened Dutt’s family — spurring him to acquire the rifle that got him in trouble — how the firearm was delivered to him, and how it was disposed of.”
Talking about Sanju, the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer has collected around Rs 327 crores at the box office. It continues its successful run at the box office. Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s Dhadak is not expected to dethrone Sanju at the BO, however, it is going to fare decently owing to the high buzz around it.
