Salman Khan’s biggest offering of the year Race 3 is about to release in just a couple of days. Directed by choreographer-turned-director Remo D’Souza, Race 3 is Salman Khan’s Eid offering this year. It’s a crime-thriller film based on the deceit and betrayal that engulfs two brothers. Salman is playing Sikander while Bobby Deol is supposedly playing his evil stepbrother Yash. Jacqueline Fernandez and Anil Kapoor are the only actors who are retained in this third instalment of Race. Earlier, Saif Ali Khan played the male protagonist in Abbas-Mustan’s Race. Following the pattern, Salman Khan’s film is releasing on Eid-al-Fitr on June 15, making it Dabanng Khan’s Eid offering this year.
Now, the question arises whether this high-octane drama will smash the box office records of Salman Khan’s previous Eid releases. Last year, Salman ushered in Eid festivities with Kabir Khan-directorial Tubelight. The film opened to lukewarm response and fair box office numbers. It raked in Rs 20.75 crores on its opening day.
Later in 2017, Salman Khan reprised his role as Tiger in Ali Abbas Zafar’s Tiger Zinda Hai. It minted Rs 34 crore on its opening day becoming one of the highest grossing films of Salman Khan.
In 2016, Salman Khan welcomed Eid with Anushka Sharma-starrer sports drama Sultan. Surprisingly, Sultan raked in Rs 36 crore on its opening day, becoming Salman’s highest opening Eid release till date. His highest opening film is Suraj Barjatya’s Prem Ratan Dhan Payo with Rs 40 crore as opening collection.f
Cast your vote here: Will Salman Khan’s Race 3 break his previous Eid records?
Citing the fact that Salman Khan’s Race 3 is opening during Eid festivities with no other major film in competition, chances are high that this action film might break the records of becoming the highest grossing Eid release of the actor. According to the trade analysts and the status quo of pre-bookings on booking portals like Bookmyshow and Paytm, Race 3 is expected to earn up to Rs 40 crore at the box office in India.
Salman Khan and his movies’ connection with Eid came into existence from 2009, when his film Wanted released during the festivity. The film helped the Bollywood hunk resurrect when his previous ventures in Bollywood were a complete failure.
Ever since then, Salman Khan was unstoppable when it comes to box office numbers. With Ek Tha Tiger, Kick and Bajrangi Bhaijaan, the Dabanng Khan established himself as the unbridled king of box office in Bollywood. Kabir Khan’s Tiger Zinda Hai continues to enjoy the highest grossing Salman Khan film status till date. Now we’ll have to wait for Friday to see whether Race 3 manages to shatter the records of Salman’s own films.
