No sooner did Akshay Kumar win his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his film Rustom, controversies started flying high. Several B-town celebs spoke on the matter and now, rumoured ex-girlfriend Priyanka Chopra opened up and expressed her opinion.
The Desi girl, who just returned to India after wrapping up the shooting of the second season of popular American TV series Quantico, was asked to comment on the controversy at press conference in Mumbai.
Taking a subtle dig at Akshay Kumar, Priyanka Chopra said, “I was in America so I don’t know a thing about it”.
“I have three National Film Awards, and that I know very well”, the 34-year-old actress added.
While Priyanka had won three national awards till date, this is Akshay's first in 25 years of his career. Akshay and Priyanka were rumoured to be dating each other long back but their relationship had reportedly ended a decade ago. However, there was no confirmation on their dating rumours.
Earlier, the announcement of Akshay getting the national award for his performance in Rustom had garnered much criticism, as many had opined that Aamir Khan deserved the award more for his act in Dangal. It was even said that he had won the honour due to his close connection with the jury head Priyadarshan.
However, Akshay in his defence had said that he is ready to give away the award if people think he does not deserve one even after 25 years of his career. "I have been working in the film industry for the last 25 years and I have noticed that every time whoever wins a National Award, the debate starts on who deserves to win the award. I got it after 25 years. If you think I don't deserve it, you can take it away," Akshay had told a popular daily.
