New Delhi: Cricketer-turned-producer Rahul Raj Singh has been granted anticipatory bail, today, in connection of actress Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide by the Mumbai High Court till April 18.
He had earlier sought anticipatory bail in Dindoshi sessions court, where Judge K.F. Ahmed rejected his plea. He then moved Mumbai HC for the same.
An FIR was filed against Rahul on charges of abetment of Pratyusha’s suicide and assault.
TV actress Pratyusha Banerjee was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her residence on April 1. Ever since she allegedly ended her life, her boyfriend Rahul has come under scrutiny. Rahul, was the one who took Pratyusha to the hospital where she was declared dead.
The ‘Balika Vadhu’ actress’ parents alleged that Rahul used to torture their daughter and is responsible for the drastic step she took. Following, a fresh statement by Pratyusha’s mother Soma Banerjee, Rahul was booked under sections 306 (abetment of suicide), 323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt), 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 506 (criminal intimidation).

Pratyusha’s death has been shrouded in mystery since day one. It was earlier argued that lack of work and financial problems drove her to take such a tragic step. However, her bank statements beg to differ. The police have asserted that money was the least of her problems.
Rahul’s lawyer Neeraj Kumar, quit his case a few days ago. Kumar said that he was kept in dark by Rahul and his parents about several crucial issues thus he decided to not fight for him on humanitarian grounds.
