Prime Minister Narendra Modi's biopic starring actor Vivek Oberoi released on May 24 after being delayed for almost a month. The film which earned Rs 2.85 crore on its opening day, witnessed an upward trend on Saturday as it minted Rs 3.76 crore taking the total PM Narendra Modi movie box-office collection to Rs 6.64 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
"#PMNarendraModi witnessed an upward trend [30.56% growth] on Day 2... Performing better in mass circuits... Metros, which contribute big numbers, aren’t as strong... Day 3 crucial, needs to gather speed... Fri 2.88 cr, Sat 3.76 cr. Total: ₹ 6.64 cr. India biz", writes Taran Adarsh.
The film was initially scheduled to hit cinemas on 5 April, but was banned by the Election Commission as biopics with political content "threaten level playing field".
The producer and makers of the biopic on Modi have time and again said that the film is not propanganda as it has been slammed by critics for its almost veneration of the Prime Minister.
Several Opposition parties opposed the release of the film around the polling period as they believed it would sway voters. The Opposition claimed that the release of the film before the elections could give undue advantage to the BJP in the polls, following which the Supreme Court banned the film's release.
