Radhika Madan and Sanya Malhotra-starrer Pataakha opened with lukewarm numbers at the box office despite rave reviews from the critics across the country. The Vishal Bhardwaj film is garnering praise for its taut direction, story and of course, the entire star cast’s performance. Talking about the film’s progress at the box office, film critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh wrote, ‘#Pataakha remains very steady [Day 4 is better than Day 1]... An upturn in biz is on the cards today [Day 5] due to the national holiday... Fri 90 lakhs, Sat 1.40 cr, Sun 1.75 cr, Mon 94 lakhs. Total: ₹ 4.99 cr. India biz.’
Pataakha faced tough competition from Varun Dhawan and Anushka Sharma’s Sui Dhaaga which opened on the same day. Unlike Pataakha, Sui Dhaaga managed to do great business at the box office in a span of four days. So far, it has minted Rs 40 crore at the box office. The business for both the films are expected to rise on Tuesday on account of Gandhi Jayanti.
Pataakha directed by Vishal Bhardwaj is a quirky tale of two sisters who are always at each other’s throat. Radhika Madan and Sanya Malhotra have played the titular roles of Genda Kumari and Champa in the film. Sunil Grover has also essayed an important role in the film. All the actors including Vijay Raz have emerged as winners in the film. Pataakha is based on Charan Singh Pathik’s novel Do Behnein. It released on September 28 along with Sui Dhaaga.
