After scaling a tumultuous journey for its release, Padmaavat has finally found its way into the theatres. The Sanjay Leela Bhansali magnum opus is being welcomed by masses in surprising numbers. Recently, the Deepika Padukone-starrer broke the records of Tiger Zinda Hai, Sultan, PK and Bajrangi Bhaijaan in Australia. On its fourth day, it crossed the 100-crore mark and now has its eyes fixed the 200-crore goal.

While the entire Padmaavat team including Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh are enjoying the phenomenal success of the film, Veere Di Wedding actress ruffled the feathers with her recent scathing open letter. In her open letter, she accused Sanjay Leela Bhansali of reducing women to ‘talking vaginas’ for committing Jauhar. She wrote the open letter on The Wire.

Many people including those of film fraternity lashed out at Swara for starting a feminist debate on a period film. Filmmaker Rohit Shetty also came out in support of Sanjay Leela Bhansali and Padmaavat. While Swara Bhaskar is dealing with the trolls on her social media accounts, Maha Rawal Ratan Singh aka Shahid Kapoor offered his two cents on her open letter. He told Bollywoodlife, “Yes, I have come to know that Swara has written a letter, but honestly, I have not yet read it yet, the letter is quite long and we are all really busy. I do not know what her issue is, maybe whatever issue she has is with Sanjay Sir.”

“I would say that this time is not for such things, Padmaavat has been representing the whole film industry. It is also representing freedom of expression and freedom of speech. It has been really difficult to make this film reach the audience. When the entire film fraternity is standing with us, in such a situation this open letter looks a bit awkward. But she has written about her personal opinion, and everyone has the right to have one,” Shahid further quipped.

Padmaavat is a period film based on the epic poem of Padmavat by Malik Muhammad Jayasi which narrates the story of Rani Padmavati who immolated herself to protect herself and her pride from Alauddin Khilji. The film faced scorn from the fringe groups like Rajput Karni Sena, who demanded a complete ban on the release of the film.  The film released after the intervention of Supreme Court.
