After the release date of R. Balki's Padman was announced, speculation were rife that Rajinikanth's 2.0 will be postponed. It is because both the films have Akshay Kumar in the lead roles. Earlier, 2.0 was supposed to release in December 2017 but was later shifted to January 26, 2018. But now it seems that Rajinikanth's fans have to wait a bit longer because the much-awaited movie will hit the screens in April 2018.
Claiming it to be nation's costliest movie, Lyca Productions has issued an official statement which read, ''Lyca Productions – Superstar Rajinikanth – Akshay Kumar – Shankar magnum opus SciFi action thriller 2.0 to be screened worldwide on April 2018. Nation’s costliest 3D film starring Superstar Rajinikanth, Akshay Kumar, Amy Jackson, directed by Shankar, music by AR Rahman. The high-tech post production works are fully geared and the team is all set for the release schedule.''
Earlier taking about the 2018 Republic Day war at box office, Akshay told Mumbai Mirror, ''While PadMan is a film that I have produced, 2.0 belongs to Shankar, Rajinikanth and Lyca Productions. They will decide whether they want to release the film on Republic Day. If they do, I will postpone Padman and if they don’t, I will go ahead.''
Padman is a biopic on entrepreneur Arunachalam Muruganantham who invented low-cost sanitary pads making machine. It also stars Radhika Apte and Sonam Kapoor. Whereas 2.0 is a sci-fi film by Shankar. Akshay is making his south debut with Rajinikanth's film which also has Amy Jackson. Akshay is playing the antagonist and his looks have already gone popular on social media.
