Actress Swara Bhaskar has come out in support of actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui after the latter was not allowed to play a character in Ram Leela. Tweeting wishes on the auspicious festival of Dusshera, Swara said she hoped the society gets rid off this pathetic mentality.
According to reports, Nawaazuddin was asked to quit his role in the act after protests from volunteers of political party Shiv Sena. They protested because Nawazuddin is a Muslim saying he cannot participate in a Hindu play. He was all set to play Maricha in the play.
On Dussehra on Tuesday, Swara tweeted: "May we rise above the pathetic mentality that disallows a Muslim artist from participating in a Ram Leela performance. Nawazuddin Siddiqui."
She added: "This Dussehra may we rise above the demon within us -- the demon of hatred, stupidity, bigotry and blind superstition. Burn Proto-fascism."
