As trade pundits had predicted, Bollywood’s latest release ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ performed exceptionally well at the box office on its first day. The biopic on star cricketer Mahendra Singh Dhoni reportedly earned Rs 21.30 crore on its release day.
By earning such a hefty amount, this Sushant Singh Rajput starrer has left superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ behind. ‘Fan’ had added Rs 19.20 crore to its lifetime collection of Rs 84.1 crore on the first day. This also makes the biopic the second biggest opener of 2016 after Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’. The blockbuster movie has earned Rs 36.54 crore on its first day, July 6.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted that owing to the the amazing footfall, the Friday total of the ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ will be terrific.
One of the biggest reasons behind the superb collections of ‘MS Dhoni: The Untold Story’ is the buzz it created. Right from when the first teaser was released to the trailer and the promotions of the movie, the biopic excited viewers. It became a highly anticipated movie with both cine buffs and cricket lovers awaiting its release.

The movie mostly garnered positive reviews and Sushant’s performance getting the larger part of it. The actor underwent extensive training to perfect the role; so much so that even captain cool was impressed by him. He said recently that Sushant did an impeccable job at imitating him.
Many viewers who watched the movie said that though the movie steers clear of controversies and doesn’t touches any questionable topics; it still makes for an entertaining watch. With such a positive word of mouth, one can expect the numbers to shoot up in the coming days.
