It’s been 16 years when superstar Shah Rukh Khan spread the magic of love as Raj Aryan in Aditya Chopra’s 2000 release ‘Mohabbatein’. The movie created a buzz because of SRK’s phenomenal style statements, with which he made us fall in love just with a glimpse.
Besides, ‘Mohabbatein’ happened to be the first movie in which King Khan had shared the screen space with Amitabh Bachchan and his now daughter-in-law Aishwarya.
Though, the movie does seems irrelevant to the present time, but we can’t deny the fact that many of us have grown up dancing to the foot-tapping numbers of the movie, dreaming of the perfect love story like that of SRK-Aish in the movie.
And not to forget is megastar Amitabh Bachchan whose performance as Narayan Shankar won him a lot of appreciation.
Interestingly, ‘Mohabbatein’ marked the Bollywood debut of six new comers – Yash Chopra’s son Uday, Shilpa Shetty’s sister Shamita, Jimmy Sheirgill, Preeti Jhangiani, Jugal Hansraj and Kim Sharma.
Though the movie won a lot of appreciation, all the newcomers failed to leave a mark in the industry.
As ‘Mohabbatein’ celebrates its 16 years of release, here we bring you some of the lesser known facts about the love saga:
1. Amitabh Bachchan was out of work before ‘Mohabbatein’ and himself approached Yash Chopra for work and ended up bagging the role of Narayan Shankar. His Indo-western look in the movie was designed by Karan Johar.
2. Sridevi was said to be playing Big B’s love interest in the movie. However, the role was chopped off after the veteran actress rejected it.
3. Shah Rukh Khan signed the movie without even going through the script. Besides, the name of his character Raj Aryan was inspired from his son.
4. Not Shamita and Kim, but Karishma Kapoor and Kajol were said to be the first choices of the makers for the role of Ishika and Sanjana respectively.
5. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty too had a cameo in the movie. He was supposed to play Shefali Shah’s husband, but his role was axed owing to the length of the movie.
6. Aishwarya Rai’s appearance was kept as a surprise for the viewers before release as she wasn’t a part of the trailer of the movie. In fact, many speculated that either Madhuri Dixit or Kajol will be playing SRK’s love interest in ‘Mohabbatein’.
7. Uday Chopra wanted Rinke Khanna opposite him in the film. But Aditya Chopra insisted a new comer be launched opposite him.
