New Delhi: The Kapil Sharma Show started with a bang on Sony TV, but unfortunately it has failed to live up to the expectations of the audiences in the following weeks after its starry launch on April 23.

The first episode of the show took the 9pm slot on the channel up by 5 times to 9 million impressions but in the second week, the average viewer ship dropped to 5 million, according to BARC (Broadcast Audience Research Council).

Kapil Sharma, who switched to Sony after fall out with Colors, seems to have lost the TRP battle to the rival channel.

According to data sourced from BARC subscribers, Color’s show India’s Got Talent, has emerged as the highest rating show during the weekend prime time of 9 pm.

Interestingly, the reality talent-hunt show generated average viewer ship of 8.5 million across India, while The Kapil Sharma Show (TKSS) could only garner only 5.5 million impressions.

In fact, ‘India’s Got Talent’ viewership is 58% higher than ‘The Kapil Sharma Show’ which started off with nearly 9 million impressions in the first week.

If it was not enough for Kapil Sharma’s disappointment, the comedian-turned-actor has even lagged behind in the race of comedy space as ‘Comedy Nights Bachao’ (6 million) and ‘Comedy Nights Live’ (5.6 million) on Colors have relegated TKSS to the third position.

In non- fiction genre, Kapil’s show is No. 4 while Sa Re Ga Ma Pa is at No 5.

Talking about India’s Got Talent’ success, the show has managed to create a universal appeal in both urban and rural market.

The viewer ship pf IGT and TKSS stands respectively at -  Urban HSM: 22 million vs 21million and Rural HSM: 12million Vs 9 million.

Even going by the gender preference, the BARC data reveals that both male and female viewers preferred ‘IGT’ and Color’s ‘Comedy Nights’ over ‘TKSS’ in Week 19, with 2.9 million and 3.1 million viewers respectively for IGT. For ‘TKSS’ it’s 2.2 million and 2 million respectively.
