Released on the occasion of Holi 2019, Kesari film is a period war drama directed by Anurag Singh. In this story of Battle of Saragarhi, Akshay Kumar plays the protagonist Havildar Ishar Singh. The film also stars Parineeti Chopra in a significant role. Talking about the box office collection of this action-drama, the film did magic at the ticketing counters. It earned Rs. 21 crore in total.
As stated by Film Critic and Analyst Taran Adarsh in his tweet, the film's graph raised in the second half of the day when all the colour-playing ceremonies were wrapped up. Taran said: "#Kesari roars... Sets the BO on (fire). Emerges the biggest opener of 2019 [so far]... After limited shows in morning/noon [#Holi festivities], the biz witnessed massive growth from 3 pm/4 pm onwards... Evening shows saw terrific occupancy... Thu ₹ 21.50 cr. India biz." Kesari is also said to be the biggest opener of 2019 and second biggest opener of Akshay Kumar after Gold. Film Gold which released on the occasion of Independence Day last year earned around Rs 25 crore on its day 1. Making a war movie and that about a battle that’s been long lost in the pages of history is not a cakewalk. However, kudos to the casting and direction of the film, Kesari was unlike any other patriotic films with an abundant amount of chest-thumping. Kesari is raw, touching and compelling in equal proportions. Had it been about a bunch of young men crying war at the top of their voice, the magic wouldn’t have been so picture-perfect.
