New Delhi: Actor Irrfan Khan whose statement about fasting in Ramzan irked Muslim clerics said that the clerics do not scare him. Irrfan took to micro blogging website Twitter to stick to his opinion in which he said that during the holy month of Ramzan people should do self introspection.
The ‘Piku’ actor was in Jaipur on Wednesday where he mouthed some strong words against religious practices. At the promotional event for his upcoming movie ‘Madaari’, he said that butchering goats was not sacrifice.
“How can killing someone become an act of goodness? We should ask ourselves what our festivals actually mean,” he had said.
Not only this, he had added that Muslims have made a mockery of festoval Muharram and said, “Rather than fasting during Ramzan, people should self-introspect. Animals are being slaughtered in the name of qurbaani during Muharram. We, Muslims, have made a mockery of Muharram. It is meant for mourning and what we do? Take out (tajiya) processions.”

These statements did not go well with few Muslim clerics and they advised him to concentrate on acting. Maulana Abdul Wahid Khatri, state secretary of Jamaat-e-Ulema-e-Hind in a statement lashed out at Irrfan and said that the actor was making senseless comments to gain publicity for his next movie.
Not the one to be shot down easily, Irrfan wrote on Twitter that those who are upset with this statement want to jump to conclusions easily. He also said that he was glad that he doesn’t live in a nation which is not governed by religious contractors.
