5 Bollywood songs that fill our hearts with patriotism

India is celebrating its 72nd Independence Day this year and what better way than to tune in to our favourite Bollywood songs that not only evoke the fire to patriotism in us but also bring tears t our eyes. Bollywood songs always manage to fuel people with a sense of respect whenever they hear them. Be it a freedom struggle anthem like Mera Rang De Basanti Chola or a song like Khoon Chala that depicts the internal struggles, patriotic songs have always had a special place in the hearts of all Indians. The latest being Ae Watan from Alia Bhatt’s Raaz.

Commemorating the special day, we have compiled a list of patriotic songs, which have over the years, become a part of our consciousness. Immerse yourself in the feeling of patriotism as you listen to this Independence Day playlist.

Ae Watan- Raazi

Ae Watan' celebrates the true spirit of patriotism — where one places one's motherland before anything, even oneself. Sung by Arijit Singh and composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy, the composition exudes the spirit of unconditional love for one's country. In the visuals too, one can see how Alia's character Sehmat goes out of her way, often risking her life, to serve her country while living in the enemy land.

Chak De! India title song

This song galvanized an entire nation into embracing a sporting culture and became synonymous with all victorious things Indian. It was from the magnificently successful Shah Rukh Khan starrer 'Chak De India' and was composed by Salim -Suleiman. Can we ever get over Sukhwinder Singh owning this one?

Maa Tujhe Salaam

The title song of studio album Vande Mataram (1997) is composed by music legend AR Rahman. This absolute beauty by AR Rahman revolutionized the way patriotism was perceived in the 90's. The song was everywhere, and no one would complain.

Chale Chalo (Lagaan)

Lagaan was a gargantuan hit, making and elevating careers. We still love to watch Aamir Khan do what he does in the climax and we still love to lip-sync those beautiful songs that run through the course of the film.

Rang De Basanti title song

The title track of the 2006 movie Rang De Basanti is composed by AR Rahman and features Daler Mehandi and KS Chitra’s voice. The patriotic drama directed by Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra features Aamir Khan, Siddharth Narayan, Kunal Kapoor, Soha Ali Khan, R Madhavan, Sharman Joshi and British actress Alice Patten.
