This means that Mohit Suri’s film is the clear winner, thrashing Saket Chaudhary’s venture by almost four times.Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle and shared the first day box-office collection of the newly released movies.
“HindiMedium Fri ₹ 2.81 cr. India biz”, Taran Adarsh wrote.
Half Girlfriend is the cinematic adaptation of Chetan Bhagat's novel of the same name. Films based on the author's works have always done well, whether it is 3 Idiots or 2 States. If you have read the novel Half Girlfriend, then you will find lots of similarities between the book and the movie. Nonetheless, the big screen version gives you a goofy Arjun Kapoor who can be referred to as the saviour of the otherwise “nothing new to offer” film.
Hindi Medium is a social comedy that lays emphasis on some grave topics of ‘Right to Education’ and ‘confusing elitism with English’. Saket Chaudhary got too deep into the grammar of emotions and reality while dealing with English-fanaticism prevailing in the country. It speaks what it needed to, in full volume.
The first day at the box-office belonged to Half Girlfriend, but can Arjun and Shraddha retain their on-screen magic or will Irrfan and Saba take over? What do you think?
