One thing is for sure that Zoya Akhtar’s Gully Boy is going to be nothing like we’ve seen before. It’s one of the rarest times in Bollywood that a leading filmmaker has decided to make an entire feature film on the life of a musician. The Dil Dhadakne Do director has roped in the best of Bollywood, Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt to play the titular characters of her film. The shoot had been wrapped long time ago and the posters, teasers are just coming out one by one. On Friday, Ranveer and Alia announced the trailer date in the most bizarre yet unique manner.
They dropped a one-minute video in which rapper Ranveer Singh raps the song Asli Hip Hop with his squad. In the movie, Ranveer will be seen playing the role of an underground rapper. The film will essay his journey from being an unknown face to a famous celebrity.
Alia Bhatt is playing the role of a Muslim girl who also wants to make a cut in music despite the societal bounds. According to the video, the trailer of Gully Boy will be dropped on January 9. Save the date!

Reports are doing rounds that Gully Boy is based on the life of real-life street rappers Vivian Fernandes aka Divine and Naved Shaikh aka Naezy who are famous for their song Mere Gully Mein.

Gully Boy also has Kalki Koechlin and Kubra Sait in important roles. In one of the scenes, Ranveer Singh is seen locking lips with Kalki suggesting a romantic angle between them in the film. Gully Boy is co-produced by Excel Entertainment and Tiger Baby. It will be released on February 14.
