Popular TV actress Mouni Roy, best known for her role as Naagin, is all set to make her Bollywood debut with the Akshay Kumar starrer Gold. The film is all set to release this Independence Day on August 15. Ahead of the film’s release, several reports started making the rounds about superstar Salman Khan giving Mouni her first break. Now, the Naagin actress has reacted to such allegation saying that Salman Khan had ‘no role in her Bollywood debut’.
During an interaction with The Times of India, Mouni dismissed the reports by stating, "You should actually pose this question to Ritesh (Sidhwani, producer of Gold). Salman Khan has had no role to play in my Bollywood debut; I don’t know how these reports emerged and I wonder why anybody would do that for me. Is it so unbelievable that after acting for 10 years and being a Bengali, I can’t land a Bengali character’s role by myself? It was hurtful."
The actress further blamed media for not giving her credibility as an actor. She added, “if I talk about this, it will look like I am using Salman sir’s name for publicity, and I don’t want to do that. He is someone I love and respect immensely. I have been his fan since I was a little girl, and I used to collect his posters and pictures. So, I don’t want to just take his name, but now that this has come up, let me clarify that I have not got a single call from Salman Khan’s production house for any role.” She also revealed that has not received any call for Dabangg 3.
Talking about the movie, Gold is directed by Reema Kagti and is based on first-ever Olympic gold medal after Independence. The movie focuses on the Golden era of Indian hockey. Besides Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy, the film promises power-packed performances by an ensemble cast – Kunal Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, Amit Sadh, Vineet Kumar Singh and Nikita Dutt. The film is all set to release on August 15.
