Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter’s debut film Dhadak may not have performed impressively well among the critics, but talking about the box office numbers, the film is a success. Despite the mixed reviews from critics across the country, Dhadak is faring surprisingly well at the box office and is doing a steady business during its second week. An official remake of Marathi superhit Sairat, Dhadak has crossed Rs 50-crore mark within a week of its release, making a place for itself among the hits of Bollywood.
The Janhvi Kapoor-starrer started on a good note, raking in Rs 8.71 crores at the box office on day 1. However, the numbers rose substantially on the day 2 owing to the word of mouth and weekend. It is the highest opening Bollywood film featuring debutantes. On second day, it minted Rs 11 crore and on the third day, the number went up to Rs 13.92 crore. In just a week, the total collection was Rs 48 crore which was impressive considering that the movie had both the actors acting for the first time.
On its seventh day, Dhadak made Rs 3.55 crore while the numbers plummeted to Rs 2.61 crore on its eighth day. The collection becomes Rs 54 crore reaching its third week. Evidently, Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Fallout has affected the numbers slightly.
Directed by Shashank Khaitan, Dhadak tells the tale of two youngsters who dared to love despite the caste and class differences. Janhvi Kapoor played the role of Parthavi, daughter of a politician while Ishaan Khatter essayed the role of Madhukar who belonged to a comparatively lower class.
