It’s been a week since Karan Johar’s production venture Dhadak hit the cinemas on July 20. The Bollywood film, starring Sridevi’s daughter Janhvi Kapoor and Shahid Kapoor’s brother Ishaan Khatter, has been breaking several records at the box-office. After six days of its opening, Dhadak earned an applauding total of Rs 48.01 crore. Now, Dhadak Box Office Collection Day 7 is out and the film has collected Rs 3.55 crore on its seventh day (Thursday), thus taking the total to Rs 51.56 crore.
Its lifetime collection will be determined by its second Friday which will see the release of Sanjay Dutt’s Sahab, Biwi Aur Gangster and Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 6.
The film’s producer, Dharma Productions, is still on promotional overdrive. Dhadak got mixed review from critics but the audiences have liked Ishaan and Janhvi. The film is doing well international markets as well, as Taran Adarsh reported, “#Dhadak scores in the international arena too... Has a SUPER opening weekend... Total: approx $ 1.32 mn [₹ 9.09 cr]... North America: $ 388k UAE-GCC: $ 412k UK-Ireland: $ 151k ANZ: $ 141k Pakistan: $ 70k Some territories yet to report.”
Dhadak has been directed by Shashank Khaitan and overpowered the opening collections of Student of the Year which was also a major launchpad for three young actors in Bollywood — Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan and Sidharth Malhotra.
Dhadak collection can also take heart from the fact that it is based on a very successful movie. That was Marathi blockbuster Sairat, which was a Rs 100 crore movie! If Dhadak collection reaches anywhere near the century mark, then it would have proven to be the best launching pad for both Janhvi Kapoor and Ishaan Khatter.
