New Delhi: While filmmaker Sanjay Leela Bhansali was busy celebrating his National Award for ‘Bajirao Mastani’ with his friends from the industry, his ‘Mastani’ Deepika Padukone was nowhere to be seen.
Deepika, who essayed the role of a warrior princess in the magnum opus, chose to give the success party a miss. This raised many eyebrows, especially when Deepika has always been thankful of being a part of SLB’s movie.
Director Sanjay too remained clueless on the matter.
“I have no idea why Deepika did not come for the success party. I heard she was leaving for Canada and she had a 10pm flight. But Ranveer was there and I had my whole cast and crew and we had a great time celebrating the success of our film,”
he was quoted by a leading daily.
An invitee at the event too cited her busy schedule as the reason behind Deepika missing it.
“She was back in India for a day, the day the National Awards were announced, before returning to shoot for her Hollywood film. She expressed her inability to be present at the party due to a prior commitment,”
said a source.

However, a report by a leading daily suggests that this is not the case. Deepika did not miss the party because she was busy but instead chose to stay away from the celebrations because she was upset for not winning the National Award.
A source close to the actress told a news portal,
“She was really hurt by the National Awards snub. She had won all the popular awards for her performance in ‘Piku’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. She expected the National Award too. When it didn’t happen she lost her appetite to celebrate with her ‘Bajirao Mastani’ team.”
The source also said that Ranveer Singh too was upset for not winning the award but he did not let his sadness come in way of SLB’s happiness. At the party, Ranveer was his usual package of energy, dancing on the hit song ‘Malhari’ of ‘Bajirao Mastani’ and greeting everyone as if he was the host.
Deepika not winning the award did not go well with Sanjay himself. After winning the Best Director National Award, he held a press conference and said that Kangana Ranaut (who won the award for Tanu Weds Manu returns) was fabulous but he would have liked if Deepika or Kangana won the award.
