New Delhi: Just like his other movies Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s next ‘Padmavati’ is making it to the tabloids every other day. So far we know that for this period drama, actress Deepika Padukone has been roped in to play the protagonist of the movie.
A few days ago it was reported that Masaan actor Vicky Kaushal was approached for the role of Raja Rawal Ratan Singh. However, he was not cast in the movie because Deepika wanted an A-lister to be her on screen husband.
Now, grapevine is rife that this request of Deepika has been heard by the makers. Reportedly, actor Shahid Kapoor has been brought on board for the role of the Rajput King Raja Ratan Singh.
A source close to this development told a leading entertainment portal,
“Bhansali wants Shahid to play the Chittor King who is married to Rani Padmini of Chittorgarh.”

In fact a source confirmed to news agency PTI that Shahid has in fact auditioned for the role. The insider said,
“He has auditioned for the role (of Deepika Padukone's husband). He is in talks but nothing is finalised yet.”
If things go as per rumours, this will be the first time that Shahid will collaborate with Sanjay Leela Bhansali. Shahid, who is all set to become a father soon is not signing any new projects, as of now. He had said that post Vishal Bhardwaj’s ‘Rangoon’ he will take a leave from work to spend time with his wife and baby.
Apart from Deepika, her real life beau Ranveer Singh too is a part of this project, reportedly. In ‘Padmavati’, Ranveer is said to essay the role of the ruthless ruler Alauddin Khilji who loses his heart on seeing the beauty of Padmavati.
Padmavati will be the third time when Deepika and Ranveer will come together on the silver screen. The last two times, interestingly, were for SLB’s movies only ‘Ram Leela’ and ‘Bajirao Mastani’. If Shahid too comes on board for this epic tale of brave queen Padmavati, then the ensemble will be an amazing one.
