This morning, reports of actress Deepika Padukone charging a hefty amount for ‘Padmavati’ started doing rounds of media. It was suggested that Deepika will charge Rs 10 crores for this Sanjay Leela Bhansali directorial and adding the taxes her paycheque will come to around Rs 12 crores.
With news came the discussions like how far women have come in the film industry and how pay disparity might finally be eroding from Bollywood. But it looks like there is more to the story.
A blind article in a Mid-day points not some good things about this deal which Deepika cracked with SLB.
The shot in the article read,
“Though there has been a lot of speculation about the project and casting, the producer-director is known to keep his cards close to his chest.
So, there is nothing official about it, but the actress has been going to town, claiming that she was being paid a whopper for the film. She didn't forget to add that it is way higher than what another leading actress, considered top of the heap, demands and gets.
As soon as her tall claims reached the filmmaker's ears, he was left fuming. He berated her and asked her to keep mum till he makes an official announcement about the project. As damage control, she is now saying that she has not signed the project yet.”
