Alia Bhatt and Shah Rukh Khan starrer ‘Dear Zindagi’ will hit theatres tomorrow and trade experts are betting that the movie will earn around Rs 8 crore on first day. The movie is releasing in only 1100 screens Pan India, so according to trade experts this number seems good. Touted as slice-of –life movie, ‘Dear Zindagi’ was made on a reported budget of Rs 22 crore. Apparently, the budget of the movie was kept low because of its niche content. Also, Shah Rukh Khan being the producer (Red Chillies Entertainment is the co-producer) didn’t charge anything for the movie. But, obviously the movie’s profit would be shared with him.

An amount of Rs 7-8 crore has been spent for print and advertising bringing the total production cost Rs 30 crore.

The satellite rights of the movie has have reportedly fetched the makers Rs 25 crore. They made another Rs 10 crore through the music rights. This means that the movie has minted a total of Rs 35 crore before release.

Subtracting this from the total production cost, (Rs 35 cr- Rs 30 cr), the movie has already added Rs 5 crore to its profit share.

A movie is considered a hit if it makes double than its production cost. This means that ‘Dear Zindagi’ has to earn Rs 60 crore for the hit tag. Out of this, it has already earned Rs 35 crore, meaning that a box office collection of Rs 25 crore will work for it.

Given the early estimates of earning Rs 8 crore on first day, it looks the movie will easily earn this amount. Notably, ‘Dear Zindagi’ is the solo release this Friday, which will definitely work in its favour.

It should also be noted that the makers targeting multiplex audience with their product meaning the demonetisation factor will have less role to play.

Moreover, the initial reviews of the movie look promising. Celebrities have lauded the team for making a beautiful team and audience in USA and UK (where the movie released yesterday) too appreciated it.

In a nutshell, ‘Dear Zindagi’ might turn out to be Alia’s hattrick hit at the box office, the earlier ones being ‘Kapoor & Sons’ and ‘Udta Punjab’.
