The much anticipated movie of the year "Dangal", starring Aamir Khan in the lead, creates ripples at box office as the film has earned whooping Rs 29.79 crore in India on the first day of its release.
Moreover, the film has managed to earn over Rs 7 crore so far at the international box office.
The film, however, failed to broke Salma Khan’s "Sultan" opening day record at the box office. "Sultan", which was released worldwide on July 6, 2016, in 4,350 screens in India and 1,100 screens overseas, earned over Rs 36 crore on day 1.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh took to his Twitter handle to share the news and wrote:
“#Dangal wrestles demonetisation... Sets the BO on fire... Ends the lull phase... Fri ₹ 29.78 cr [incl ₹ 59 lacs from Tamil and Telugu].”
"Dangal", which released in over 4,000 screens in India and over 1,000 screens overseas, is expected to cross Rs 100-crore mark in just three days.
In another tweet, Taran Adarsh said: “Dangal’s Sat and Sun biz will be higher... Word of mouth is terrific... Expected to cross ₹ 100 cr mark in first 3 days... India biz.”
If Dangal able to fetch Rs 100 crore in three days of its release in India, the it would be the seventh film to achieve this feat.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo", "Sultan", "Dhoom 3," "Chennai Express," "Happy New Year" and "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" are the other six films that entered the Rs. 100 crore club in three days of its release.
Taran also shared the details of film’s overseas business.
Directed by Nitesh Tiwari, the film is based on the story of Mahavir Singh Phogat. Besides Aamir, it also features Sakshi Tanwar, Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra in prominent roles.
