Remember Chennai Express? Yes, the same movie that spurred a laugh riot in theatres. Directed by Rohit Shetty, it broke several box office records back then, becoming the quickest film to collect $1 billion net domestically. At that time, Chennai Express surpassed 3 Idiots becoming the highest grossing Bollywood film worldwide. Courtesy this film, we got to see the comic side of beautiful actress Deepika Padukone who is often seen in serious roles and it won’t be an overstatement to say that, she nailed it.
On Wednesday, Chennai Express completed 5 years. It released on August 8th back in 2013. It opened to average to appreciative reviews among the critics of the country, but the audience definitely enjoyed this joyride.
As the film clocks 5 years, Deepika Padukone and Rohit Shetty got nostalgic. The actress shared a behind-the-scenes video on her Instagram account, writing, “when a possessed Meenamma took over the sets of #ChennaiExpress.”
The video is from the shooting of the iconic ‘Possessed Meenamamma’ scene in which Deepika Padukone had to kick Shah Rukh Khan off her bed. It is evident in the video that as much as we enjoyed watching the film, the cast enjoyed shooting for this laugh riot. While Deepika is seen trying to get her lines right, the entire cast is seen bursting into laughter followed by Ms Padukone herself.

Deepika Padukone and Shah Rukh Khan have worked in a number of films together including the actress’ debut film Om Shanti Om. After Chennai Express, they featured together in Happy New Year, which failed to do wonders at the box office.
On the work front, Shah Rukh Khan will be next seen in an Aanand L Rai directorial opposite Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. On the other hand, Deepika Padukone hasn’t signed any film yet. The last quarter of this year remains free for the Piku actress. As per the reports, she will be tying the knot with boyfriend Ranveer Singh in November this year. It will be a close-knit wedding with only Shah Rukh Khan and Arjun Kapoor among the industry in attendance. However, the couple will host two lavish receptions each in Bangalore and Mumbai for their industry friends and extended family.
