As January 2019 seems to be an important month for Bollywood films belonging to varied genres -from biopics to historical drama and others. The film titled Cheat India which is a fictional story was previously scheduled for a release on January 25. But this release date of Cheat India was coinciding with two other films -one, the biopic on the Shiv Sena supremo Bal Thackeray and two, Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi.
All the three films feature prominent and versatile actors in lead roles -while Cheat India has Emraan Hashmi, the role of Bal Thackeray is played by Nawazuddin Siddiqui, and actress Kangana Ranaut portrays The Queen of Jhansi in Manikarnika.
Ever since the trailer of Thackeray released, the Shiv Sena has been demanding a solo release for the film, asking other filmmakers to change their release dates, so that it gets a clear release and enjoys the perks of the Republic Day weekend. This is the reason why the makers of Cheat India, a film based on the Indian education system, advanced the film’s release by a week to January 18 which was announced in Mumbai on Friday. Both the producers of Cheat India and the makers of Thackeray hosted a joint press conference.

After the prepone release of Cheat India, Thackeray, which is to be released in Hindi and Marathi, will now compete for screens with Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. As the producer of Manikarnika, Kamal Jain had said earlier that he has no plans of rescheduling the film's release date: "We are definitely coming on January 25 since the Republic Day weekend justifies our film. Rani Laxmibai is a national icon like Balasaheb Thackeray and there are enough screens and shows to accommodate the two films, so there shouldn’t be an issue with respect to screen count."
The biopic of Rani Laxmibai has been co-directed by Krish and Kangana Ranaut and has been made in Hindi, Telugu and Tamil.
