The 7Oth edition of the Cannes Film Festival is abuzz with all the glitz and glamour from across the globe. Our very own Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Sonam Kapoor dazzled at the mega event and made us proud. However, several critics have slammed the event for being all about fashion and less about films.
While the fashion Vs films debate is growing stronger and attracting discussions all over, Sonam Kapoor has come to the forefront to speak on the ongoing matter.
The Neerja actress explained the reason behind her ultra-glamorous appearances at Cannes 2017 and said she was promoting a brand there. The actress added that if she would have attended Cannes for a movie, she would have definitely dressed differently.
In an interview with The Indian Express, Sonam Kapoor said, “No, I don’t think so. It is a film festival and everybody walks for their films, but I am here representing L’Oreal Paris which happens to be a make-up brand. If I was walking here a film I would be dressing up very differently, but since I am here walking for make-up and glam brand, it makes sense to wear make-up and have fun, look beautiful”.
Notably, despite making many movies, only a handful of Bollywood movies are premiered at the festival. When Sonam was asked about it, she said, “Our market is completely different from that of the rest of the world. In recent years, we have had films like Dangal, Neerj’ and others finding success despite not following the typical Bollywood formula. But I think when a project is tagged as a ‘festival film’, the producers are under the impression that it might not be a commercial success.”
Sonam Kapoor begs to differ that Cannes Film Festival is more about fashion and less about movies. What is your take?
