A week before the first look of Vidya Balan’s “Begum Jaan” was released, which created much buzz. Now, the makers have come up with the trailer and boy oh boy, the promo looks intriguing and power-packed all the way.
Needless to say, bold Vidya owns it as the bold owner of a brothel in the period drama, which also stars Naseeruddin Shah, Rajit Kapur and Gauahar Khan in lead roles.
Set in the time of partition, the film chronicles the lives of the National award-winner actress and the women living in her brothel in rural Punjab.
The trailer begins with veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan’s voice-over explaining the premise of the film.
The trailer reveals that Begum Jaan is asked to vacate her brothel as the Radcliffe Line that is to split Punjab into two halves will be drawn through it.
Begum Jaan, rallied by the prostitutes who work for her, refuses to leave and declare their intention to die as "ranis" or queens.
Begum Jaan is a Hindi adaptation of director Srijit Mukherji’s Bengali film Rajkahini.
The music of the film has been composed by Anu Malik.
The film is slated to release on April 14.
