Shahid Kapoor has reportedly ditched five-star luxury for his upcoming film Batti Gul Meter Chalu. The actor, who is riding high on the success of his latest Sanjay Leela Bhansali film Padmaavat, stayed in a cottage in Arunachal Pradesh for Rangoon. This time, it is a small but humble hut in Tehri, Uttarakhand and his, co-star Shraddha Kapoor is also accompanying him in the homestay. According to a Mid-day report, the cast and crew, including Shahid, Shraddha and director Shree Narayan Singh, are currently staying in 10 houses that had been chosen by the producers ahead of the shoot.
"The producers toyed with the idea of five-star stay initially but realised that the closest ones are in Dehradun. The conveyance would have been a hassle since the location is a three-hour-plus drive from Dehradun. That's when Shahid and the producers decided to opt for homestay. When they suggested the idea to Shraddha, she instantly agreed”, a source was quoted as saying to the tabloid.
Furthermore, the source added that Shahid opined that staying close to the locals would help Shraddha and him pick up their dialect, which would lend an air of authenticity to their characters, the source stated.
Taking to his Twitter handle, Shahid Kapoor shared his film’s teaser with a caption that read, “Let's celebrate the festival of light with the hope that soon electricity will be a right and not a privilege for all. ‘Batti Gul Meter Chalu”
Batti Gul Meter Chalu is a light-hearted social drama, and since it is based on the issue of astronomical electricity bills that citizens face, the makers thought it was ideal to launch the title and teaser on the festival of lights.
