New Delhi: To spread awareness about road safety and the essentiality of wearing a helmet, the Delhi Traffic Police hosted an awareness programme at India gate on Tuesday evening. Since celebrities make a strong statement, the event had actor Arjun Kapoor and writer Chetan Bhagat as chief guests.

Arjun arrived at the event a little late since he was stuck in shooting for his next movie ‘Half Girlfriend’ and seemed in a hurry to go back. While everything was going smoothly, the actor reportedly did something which was in stark contrast with what he was there to do. Reportedly, Arjun refused to wear a helmet because his hairstyle would be hampered.

A report in a leading daily said that when the police officers requested Arjun to don a helmet, he was reluctant. When media persons present too pressed him for the same he reportedly said, “Shooting se aa raha hoon aur shoot par wapas jaana hai. Baal kharab ho jayenge.”

Arjun, might have just said the same thing which keeps most of the people from wearing a helmet; the fear of unkempt hair.

However, the report also said that there was another reason why he refused to wear a helmet.

A policeman was quoted as, “He said that he's endorsing some automobile brand, and if his photos riding another vehicle come out, it'll create issues for him. We understood his concern and he posed with the helmet, which is fine. Visitors to India Gate who saw him came to see him, so our purpose of creating awareness about road safety was served.”

At the event, Arjun was questioned about bike stunts that Bollywood movies showcase which could have a bad impact on viewers since they would try it too.

To this he said, “Insaan mein apna dimaag bhi thoda hota hai. We are taught things when we are growing up. Agar films se hi sab kuch seekhna hai, toh we'd have to shut down schools. Films are for entertainment and not for learning. For learning about road safety, you have driving schools and that's where people should learn, not from films.”

Arjun also said that he doesn’t not ride bikes as his mother asked him not to. He rides it only in his films and that too with complete safety. The ‘Ki & Ka’ actor urged people to not drink and drive, instead call a cab when needed.

Praising the work of cops, Arjun said that people tend to take officers for granted. He also thanked the traffic police for ensuring his movie ‘Half Girlfriend’ has a seamless shoot.
