Anupam Kher's The Accidental Prime Minister to release in Pakistan

The Accidental Prime Minister, which released on January 11 in India has got clearance from Pakistan censor board. Starring Anupam Kher and Akshaye Khanna in important roles, the movie is based on Sanjaya Baru's book of the same name. Baru was media advisor of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. While Kher plays the role of Manmohan Singh, Khanna essays Sanjaya Baru in the flick.

Produced by Jayantilal Gada's PEN Studios, the movie will hit Pakistani theaters on January 18. “PEN Studios is happy to announce that our one-of-a-kind political film, The Accidental Prime Minister, has got a green signal from our neighbouring country, Pakistan. Pakistani moviegoers will be able to enjoy the film as it is set to release there. I always admired Imran Khan as a brave cricketer, and now I respect him as a Prime Minister, too. I’m also thankful to Pakistan’s Censor Board chairman for approving our film,'' the producer said in a statement.

The Accidental Prime Minister has been directed by Vijay Ratnakar Gutte. Earlier, Kher had said that in his 35 years of career, he hasn't worked hard the way he has for this film. He also requested former PM Manmohan Singh to watch the movie. ''When you do a biopic of a certain person, then the actor of that film always wants to know the reaction of the person on whom that biopic is based. I am hopeful that at least his family will go and watch the film. I also want to request Dr. Manmohan Singh to watch the film, then I feel not only me, but people will also like his gesture,'' he said.

As per Bollywood Hungama, the movie has earned Rs 11.90 crore in its opening weekend and is facing tough competition from Vicky Kaushal's Uri: The Surgical Strikes. Aditya Dhar's directorial has minted over Rs 46 crore in four days. The Accidental Prime Minister also stars Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur in supporting roles.
