New Delhi: The 1986 movie ‘Chameli Ki Shaadi’ starring actors Anil Kapoor and Amrita Singh was a huge hit and reports have it that the movie will get a remake soon. To add to the excitement of this rumour it is being suggested that the remake will feature a fresh pair -- Parineeti Chopra and Diljit Dsonajh.
A leading entertainment portal suggested Parineeti will be the new Chameli and Diljit will play Charandas in the remake.
Media reports have it that the rights of the remake have been bought by Phantom Films. The film will be helmed by Rohit Jugraj, reportedly.
Apparently, superstar Shah Rukh Khan was keen on buying the rights of the movie, but he lost them to Madhu Mantena, a Phantom films official.

Chameli Ki Shaadi, a comedy caper of the 80’s exposed the ugly caste system prevailing in India, since generations. It revolved around the love story of an outspoken and headstrong upper caste Chameli who falls in love with lower caste Charandas, a shy bachelor who aspires to be a wrestler. Back then, this directorial of Basu Chatterjee was seen as a breath of fresh air due to its women centric content.
While Amrita Singh is still remembered for her stint as Chameli, Parineeti Chopra’s rendition would also make an interesting watch. Only if the reports are true.
It should not be missed that if Diljit has been roped in for the role of Charandas it would be fascinating to see a turban clad protagonist. Diljit delivered a striking performance in ‘Udta Punjab’ and it was being said that soon he will showered with movie offers. And looks like the first drops of the rain have already begun for the superstar of Punjabi film industry.
