It seems like a release date shuffle time for many Bollywood films. After Sonam Kapoor’s Zoya Factor, another Bollywood film has rescheduled its release. Alia Bhatt and Varun Dhawan starrer period drama Kalank, which was earlier scheduled for April 19 release, has been preponed to April 17. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the news and wrote, “IT'S FINAL... #Kalank to release on 17 April 2019 [was slated for release on 19 April 2019 initially]... Will be a 5-day *extended* opening weekend... Teaser will be out on 12 March 2019.”

As per a tabloid, the film has been rescheduled to April 17. A source told them, “The idea is to capitalise on Mahavir Jayanti as well as Good Friday, besides Saturday and Sunday. It's an extended weekend with two partial holidays. And going by past records, it's a good time for a big film to release."

It is also beneficial for Kalank as it would get a nine-day window before Avengers: Endgame that’s releasing on April 26. There’s a mammoth of buzz around the finale of superhero franchise Avengers and releasing a film along with the Marvel film would be a no-brainer. Hence, the release has been pulled a little earlier to give it enough room to do business.

Recently, Amitabh Bachchan and Taapsee Pannu’s Badla hit the silverscreens clashing with Captain Marvel. The Sujoy Ghosh crime-thriller raked in around Rs 5 crores while Captain Marvel has approximately double the numbers.

The source further said, “It's a well-thought-out business decision to advance the opening."

Kalank, which is directed by Abhishek Varman, has an ensemble cast including Alia Bhatt, Varun Dhawan, Aditya Roy Kapur, Sonakshi Sinha, Sanjay Dutt and Madhuri Dixit in the lead roles.
