Decoding Sehmat: How Alia Bhatt transformed herself into a dauntless Indian spy for Raazi

Alia Bhatt is an experimental mode when it comes to picking up projects. And this experiment, to say it precisely, is a successful one. Over the years, the actress has delivered back to back critically-acclaimed performances. With just the trailer of Raazi, Alia has floored the audience who is looking forward to this upcoming Meghna Gulzar-directorial. In the film, she will be seen essaying the role of an Indian spy who is married off to a Pakistani soldier to provide classified information about Pakistani Army during Indo-Pak War. Her information served crucial in sabotaging the neighbourhood country’s plan to sink INS Viraat, thus saving Indian army much of the humiliation.

On Thursday, the makers of the film release a video showing how Alia Bhatt transformed herself into Sehmat. The video starts with Sehmat trying to extract information from what looks like a study at her in-laws’ place. While talking about Alia Bhatt’s character Sehmat, Meghna Gulzar sheds light on how the actress has learned the ‘morse code’ to get into the skin of her character.

According to Meghna Gulzar, Sehmat required to be a gentle, feminine woman which the director found in Alia Bhatt. Later, the woman goes through rigorous training under Indian Army Intelligence to pass through as a spy.

She practices her action scenes again and again until she attained perfection. Alia Bhatt revealed that the most difficult part of the shoot was when the actress was required to drive a ‘Jonga’, a specially designed vehicle used by the Indian Army.

So, it’s evident that a lot went into the making of Sehmat, one of the most challenging characters Alia Bhatt has played so far. As if the trailer wasn’t enough to augment our eagerness, the making video of Sehmat had us even more restless for the film to release

Raazi is scheduled to hit the theatres on May 11, 2018.
