Bollywood superstar Salman Khan’s ‘Sultan’ has been one of the most successful movies of 2016 so far. The movie went on to break several records at the box office including the highest grossing movie of the year.
The charisma of ‘Sultan’ was such that that even megastar Rajinikanth’s ‘Kabali’ couldn’t fare in front of it.
Despite getting a mega opening, ‘Kabali’ failed to surpass the collections of ‘Sultan’.
But looks like Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ is giving a tough time to ‘Sultan’.
Released on 12th August, ‘Rustom’ opened to a commendable collection of Rs 14.11 crores on its day of release.
Though, it is way behind the collections of ‘Sultan’, which were Rs 36.54 crores, ‘Rustom’ went on grow steadily in its first weekend.
And finally the Akshay starrer went on to beat ‘Sultan’ on its first Monday.
‘Sultan’ had minted Rs 15.64 crores on its first Monday post release. However, ‘Rustom’ has surpassed its collections and has went on to mint Rs 17.81 crore, which is the highest first Monday collection for 2016.
Notably, both the movies have enjoyed a long weekend. However, Monday was the 6th day for ‘Sultan’ post release as compared to ‘Rustom’ for whom it was the 4th day of run and that too with a holiday.
Though, ‘Rustom’ did beat ‘Sultan’ on its first Monday, but the Salman starrer once again took the lead on Tuesday.
‘Rustom’ had minted Rs 7.67 crore on Tuesday, while the collections of ‘Sultan’ were Rs 12.92 crores.
