Superstar Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ is all set to hit theatres this Friday. Since it went on floors the movie has gained quite the attention from tabloids. This Tinu Suresh Desai directorial draws inspiration from the famous K.M. Nanavati case of 1959.

This particular case holds special importance in Indian judiciary as this was the last one to be heard by a jury.

Commander Kawas Manekshaw Nanavati, was tried for the murder of Prem Ahuja, his wife’s lover in this case. Prem had promised Nanavati’s wife Sylvia that he would marry her. When Sylvia learnt that Prem never intended to marry her she confessed it to Nanavati, who then went to Prem’s residence and shot him.

Now the movie ‘Rustom’ revolves around a sensitive topic of extra marital affairs. Apparently Akshay’s character Rustom Pavri was not allowed to abuse his wife Cynthia (Sylivia’s on screen portrayal) in it. The Certification Board thought that a star of Akshay’s stature should not abuse his wife even if she is cheating on him.

Media reports have it that the movie was cleared with a ‘U/A’ certificate with only two verbal cuts. The Central Board of Film Certification asked the makers to chop off “'b***h' and 'b*****d'”, both mild English-language expletives, from the movie.

“Rustom has been cleared with no visual cuts only name-calling expletives. Because the film stars Akshay Kumar the cuss words have been ordered out. He has the image of a clean decent man who respects all human beings, male or female. Unke mooh se gaali achcha nahin lagta (abuses don't sound nice from him),”
