Rs 30 crore in 2 days: Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ on way to become big hit of 2016

Akshay Kumar’s ‘Rustom’ earns Rs 30 crore on Box office within two days of its release.

Akshay Kumar starrer ‘Rustom’ is winning big at the box office. The movie which is based on the infamous 1959 K.M. Nanavati case has raked in Rs 30.54 crore within two days of its release.

Despite Hrithik Roshan’s ‘Mohenjo Daro’ releasing alongside, the Akshay Kumar starrer has attracted the maximum audience. The periodical drama can only managed to earn Rs 8.87 cr. on Day 01.

While 'Rustom', which earned Rs 14.11 crore on Day 01 saw a growth of 16.44% on Day 02 as it minted Rs 16.43 Saturday taking the overall total to Rs 30.54.

Trade analyst Taran Adarsh shared the box office figures of ‘Rustom’ on his twitter account.

"#Rustom Fri 14.11 cr, Sat 16.43 cr. Total: ₹ 30.54 cr. India biz. SUPERB!," he tweeted.

The business is expected to increase on Sunday and with Monday being the gazetted holiday (Independence Day), the movie is set for a massive four day total.

Interestingly, ‘Rustom’ is Akshay’s third consecutive movie of this year to earn over Rs 10 crore on the first day. ‘Airlift’ had earned Rs 12.35 cr on first day and ‘Housefull 3’ had minted Rs 15.21 cr.

Rustom is also the fourth highest opening movie of 2016. It’s only behind Salman Kan’s ‘Sultan’ (36.54 cr) Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Fan’ (19.20 cr) and ‘Housefull 3’ (15.21 cr)

Notably, Rustom’s business is not just limited to India, the movie is earning moolahs in overseas market too. Especially, in USA and Gulf region.

“#Rustom is UNSTOPPABLE in UAE-GCC... Thu AED 1 million, Fri AED 1.3 million, Sat AED 800,000. Total: AED 3.1 million [₹ 5.65 cr],” Taran Adarsh tweeted.

Critics have sung praises for Akshay’s role as Rustom Pavri, a disciplined officer being tried for the murder of his wife’s lover. The movie features Ileana D’ Cruz as Cynthia, Akshay’s Kumar’s wife.

With Rustom’s unstoppable run at the box office Akshay Kumar is all set for a hat-trick of success in 2016.
