Even after Madras High Court's order of blocking 12,000 websites to stop online theft of Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth's much-awaited film, 2.0, it got leaked online just a few hours after release. Directed by S. Shankar and made under the budget of INR 535 crores, it was very important for the film to raise a good box-office collection to recover the amount invested and now that the film is leaked online, it will definitely affect the numbers. Earlier, the makers of the film had approached Madras High Court in order to protect the film from piracy, especially from a website called TamilRockers. In response, Madras High Court has directed 37 internet service providers (ISPs) to block over 12,000 websites that exhibit pirated versions of Tamil movies.
This is not the first time that Tamilrockers have leaked a film online. Previosuly, the notorious group leaked Aamir Khan's Thugs of Hindostan online, which may have affected the business of the film to a great deal. It also leaked Vada Chennai and Sarkar in the past. It's latest victim becomes Rajinikanth's 2.0, which is expected to open on thunderous note, citing the pre-booking scenarios in India as well as across the borders.
