After the untimely demise of veteran actress Sridevi, it seems like makers have decided to shelve the sequel of 1987 cult classic Mr India. Reports started doing the rounds in mid-2017 that the hit jodi of Anil Kapoor and Sridevi will be back on the silver screen with Mr India 2 but the veteran actress died of accidental drowning in February. Now, the latest buzz is that Boney Kapoor has shelved the project. A source revealed to the leading entertainment portal that without two legendary stars Amrish Puri and Sridevi’s association with the project, it is almost impossible to create the same magic.
A leading entertainment portal, Bollywood Hungama, quoted a source as saying, “It makes no sense to have a sequel without Sridevi. It’s like Mother India without Nargis, Or Agra without the Taj Mahal. Mr India is so closely associated with three main actors Anil Kapoor, Amrish Puri and Sridevi. With two of them gone it would be impossible to recreate the magic of the original. Boney and Anil have decided to call off the sequel plans.”
Shekhar Kapur, who directed the film in 1987, stated that he is not aware of Boney’s plans regarding the project and he was never going to direct the sequel. He said, “Now with Sridevi no more, the question doesn’t arise.”
